As the sidebar statement indicates, we hope to provide oversight for the overseers on this blog. And we can think of no better example about the need for oversight than in the case of Justice John Gomery, whose post-sponsorship recommendations would have radically changed the nature of Canadian government.
As dozens of prominent Canadians agreed - and, among them, Prime Minister Stephen Harper - Justice Gomery went too far. The Prime Minister's recent letter to these distinguished Canadians is well worth reading.
It shows, among other things, that many Canadians share our concern: namely, that the "independent" watchdogs have become far too powerful, and too reckless. They need oversight, and we modestly intend to provide some.
